Pic Letter DC 48

This rare Victorian letter steelyard is most unusual, being almost entirely made from wood, with brass and steel used for wearing parts or for those requiring strength. The boxwood beam is graduated from 1/2 to 4 oz by 172 oz, and is only 5,25" long. The brass weight is filled with lead and stamped on the top, WARRANTED ACCURATE, in a circle around its hangar. the oak base is stamped near the front G. R. & Co , London. The thin, black  japanned steel hangar for the weight forms a rudimentary knife edge for suspension.
