Letter scales
Pic Letter DC 6

Post Office letter scales by DeGrave & Co, London c1890. In this design the traditional cords have been replaced by metal hangers, and the small pan is pre-weighted to weigh 1 oz, the minimum postal rate at this time of manufacture. The rectangular brass weights are for 1/2, 1, 2 & 4 oz. Some of these sets were later converted for the Post Office to take round weights, by drilling a round hole over the rectangular holes. Brass pillar and brass or steel beam with a mahogany base. Marked with the makerīs name and GPO (General Post Office). 10,5" high.
