scale Pic GRAIN 12 Chondrometer, or grain scale, c 1820. Brass with round iron beam. Contained in a fitted mahogany box with instructions. The bucket and pedestal are removed for storage in the box. A wood " striker " was used to level grain from the top of the bucket. This standard British design was used throughout the 19th C. and may be seen with many different names. Sizes range from 200mm to 300mm ( 8" to 12 " ) long. |
